Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our floor tests that test for bare floors, and they're particularly adept in cleaning pet hair. However, they do have a few flaws that keep them from being our top pick. For instance, the Q5's navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology, so it's prone to getting hung up on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tightly packed rooms very well in our tests. It also doesn't come with a camera to look around corners.

It's still a great option for those who want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot and have a mostly unfinished home or office. It's also very quiet and can be used while you're at work or going to school. The only thing it lacks that you can't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective in mopping, using disposable wet wipes that don't hold on for long and don't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle, however. If you're required to mop, the mopping pad can be swapped for an awe-inspiring one in a matter of seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into a sleek, compact package. Its intelligent cleaning maps and quick navigation make it easy to clean, and efficient in dealing with larger particles like pet hair. It also features a powerful suction and self-emptying bin. It's the most efficient robot hoover for carpets, though it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensors to avoid obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the layout of your home over time to offer more efficient cleaning. The app lets you modify zones and alter the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average compared to other models.

If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can instruct it to pull back and extend its mops. This helps prevent cross-contamination. The flex arm can be used to reach under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It's not as effective on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

It's more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, an onboard dustbin that automatically fills up its base, and supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is a feature that we haven't seen before on other robotic cleaner and mop vacuum/mop combinations.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

The robot vacuum and mop combination features a sleek, circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba unit than the boxy models from the competition. It's one of our most attractive robot vacuums. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It features advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads on its own).

It's also the only robot automatic vacuum cleaner and mop or mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is thanks to the combination of high-tech sensors, including a structured lighting system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is simple to use. It has an intuitive mobile application interface, and it integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only real drawback is that it's still quite an eerily noisy device which could be an issue if you use it in the morning prior to work, or at night when you try to fall asleep.

It's also a bit expensive, though it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are equally powerful and look better. If you're willing with a little more noise and some additional cost it's a powerful two-in-one that will satisfy most people.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot vacuum and mop. It has a number of features that are advanced and will help you forget your chores. Similar to Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes care of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multifunction dock that automatically empty the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank and cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floor plans and spot obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its premium competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards but this wasn't completely foolproof in our tests, and could be confused with obstructions or power cords.

Its vacuum has a high suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to get the job done. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vac works and alters the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house depending on how dirty they tend to be.

For larger houses, it's worth opting for one with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean a particular area of your house by using the app or via voice commands. A stair mode can be useful if you have a number of furniture. Additionally, a recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to take over exactly where it left off is ideal for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more sophisticated than the price suggests. It's a pro at cleaning, removing 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using a single pad and a rotating motion which is cleaner than the majority of the robot mop cleaners that we've tested. It's also self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and an auto-emptying washable base.

The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate a mapping run that collects data on your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, arrange a spot clean or to prioritize your most filthy rooms to ensure better performance. The app also provides access to a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It can also reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a strong suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for pet hair. It also has the ability to create a spot-clean that scours a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker, cheaper alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive design, similar to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are shaped like cute eyes. It is excellent at vacuuming, however it is more likely to be caught on low thresholds. It also has a higher noise than other top robot vacuums we've test.
