World of Warcraft - Item Upgrading

Certain items are worth upgrading due to their distinctive stats. (For instance, a perfectly rolled breakpoint armor used in melee PvP). Other items like weapons don't change much after an upgrade, and aren't worth the effort.

Weapons

Weapons can be upgraded to increase their numeric stats such as damage to attack, crit chance PvE and PvP damage. Weapons have a flat-rate bonus that increases damage per second. Additionally there are many weapons with a set bonus that activates when three or more of the same weapon are present on a unit. This bonus can sometimes be more than the damage that a weapon upgrade alone can do.

The cost of upgrading a weapon is based on the quality of the weapon and its current level. For instance an item with a rating of +2 will require two regular Smithing Stones to upgrade while an upgrade of +3 requires four. The number of stones required to upgrade items the gun will increase until it requires an upgrade to a higher level of Smithing Stones. At that point it will reset to one.

Upgrades to weapons also change the stats of their base. While this is generally beneficial but it can also have negative effects as well. Upgrades can make things inaccessible, unless you're very lucky.

The ability to upgrade armor items to boost their performance. In the case of chests or helms it will boost the defense of its base, while gloves and belts will enhance their required strength and dexterity. Armor also has the option of rerolling its Enhanced Defense%, meaning that it could roll back to a lower number.

The upgrade template of a weapon will show the new stats it will gain upon upgrading, as well as the relative value of those stats. This means that the weapon will gain 33% attack damage when it is upgraded from an 8 attack damage sword to an 11 attack damage sword. The 3% difference does not mean that the weapon will be hit 3 times less, as it is an absolute number.

A weapon can be rerolled by pressing the green button with circling arrows in the item menu. This will roll an item and alter its stats, but not reset the weapon's levels, or bind it to account status.

Armor

A few upgrades to your armor can make the world of difference in your ability to survive. Certain sets offer massive increases in resistance to poison, curses, fire, and magic. This can make it easier to get through difficult terrains. In general, the greater defense you have for your character, the greater health you'll receive from each point. So, it's best to upgrade your armor.

To upgrade your armor, go to one of the Great Fairy Fountains in the game. There are four of them and each one requires you to complete a specific side quest involving the Stable Trotters musical troupe. Once you've completed the primary side quest and have completed the corresponding fountain you'll be able to talk to any Great Fairy to open up the menu for upgrading your armor.

The amount of material needed to upgrade each piece of armor will differ. You'll need anywhere from three Red Chuchu jelly and 10 Rupees to upgrade your first armor piece, and between five Rubies or 10 Fire-Breath Horns to upgrade the next one. The Champion Leathers, as an example, can be upgraded to a 5 defense rating, which will allow you to keep up in frigid conditions with a lot of enemies. The Snowquill Headdress, on the other hand, can be upgraded as high as +20 defense so that you can survive a raid with friends.

It's important to note that armor cannot be upgraded in the same way as weapons, so you'll need to focus on enhancing it to increase physical power if you're a Warrior or Spell Power in the case of Mage. It's also a good idea to save your armor upgrades for the armor you'll still be wearing at the end of the game, like the Ring of Lightning and Spectral Shield, or the helmet you wear to fight the final boss, the Monter Parts Merchant's mask.

You can also get some advantages to your armor by giving the jeweler in Gerudo Town 10 Twinkling Titanite. In general, you should keep these upgrades for the weapon you'll use to beat the game, such as the Longsword, Battleaxe or Warhammer, but it can be beneficial to have a few upgrades of the helmets and chest armor that permit you to sneak past some monsters.

Potions

Potions are liquids that, when consumed by the player, give an immediate effect for a short period of time. There are five kinds of potions, each with different effects and durations. Some potions may be upgraded, increasing the effectiveness of their effects. Additionally, the effects of some potions can be enhanced by adding redstone or glowstone dust them.

Upgrades to potion require a certain amount of XP. This can be obtained through crafting them on a table, or by storing them in the Alchemist chest. However, the cost of upgrading changes depending on what kind of potion you wish to upgrade, and also on the item's Mark Level and Rarity.

To upgrade a potion, right-click on it in your inventory and select the "Upgrade" option from the menu. This opens a GUI in which you can select the potions you wish to upgrade and the amount of XP they'll produce when upgraded. Upgrading potions can be done in batches of up to five at a single time, and the XP they provide will be added to your current XP total.

When a poton is upgraded in quality, it will not deteriorate until you make use of it again or break the bottle within the container it is stored. You can also change the name of the potion by clicking it in your inventory.

Version 1.7.2 introduced a few modifications to the mechanics of potions. Splash potions, for example are now available with a time of that is 0:08 instead of 22.5 seconds shown on the hover display of the item upgrader. In addition to weapons, armor and potions, players can upgrade their trinkets. They can be upgraded by visiting an upgrade vendor and paying the appropriate currency. Trinkets unlike other items that can be upgraded, can be exchanged at any time without losing stats.

Upgrade vendors are located at the capitals of each zone, and in some instances in dungeons. Upgrades for trinkets are offered with gold, tokens, or fragments from trinkets that are rare.

Upgrading a trinket is an affordable alternative to buying an entirely new one. A player can upgrade their trinket for as little 12 tokens. The new trinket will have the same base ilvl of the older one, and come with an additional upgrade bonus of 1.

Trinkets can be re-upgraded once they're no longer needed and allows players to boost their power and value over time. They can be traded among players which makes them a good alternative to gold.

Players must upgrade their most valuable items first. This means that the Best item upgrade-in slot items for each class are first upgraded then their secondary gear and finally other pieces of equipment that will not replace in the near future (such as rings or cloaks). Players should also take into consideration their class's preferred stats when selecting the items to upgrade. For example, if Haste and Crit are the two most important stats for a tank, they should be focusing on upgrading their helm, chest shoulders, belt, and chest.

Trinkets can be upgraded to a higher ilvl once they no longer have value and the new trinket can be upgraded to have an additional bonus of 1% for upgrading. Re-upgrading will cause the trinket to be destroyed unless it is salvaged using the Black Lion Salvage Kit, or a higher tier salvage tool.
