Buying a Pram Newborn

Parents and caregivers can rely on prams and pushchairs that can be versatile and multi-functional. They are the co-pilots of your child's new journey.

A pram newborn is designed for newborns and babies. It has the most solid, sturdy carrycot with soft and secure walls.

A pram comes with a bassinet. However, it can also be converted into a stroller once the baby is ready.

Safety

The newborns of today are extremely fragile and should be kept as safe as is possible. A folding stroller or pram equipped with safety features will keep your baby secure and comfortable while traveling. A foldable stroller or pram should include a break that is working and a 5-point harness (2 shoulder straps with two waist straps and an e-crotch belt) and a wrist tether for the person driving it. Make sure the pram you choose meets these standards.

Look for a pram that allows your infant to ride in the recommended lie-flat position. This position is supportive for the baby and prevents the risk of a dangerous curve in the spine which can cause spinal problems. It also lowers the chance of SUID (Sudden Unexpected Infant Death Syndrome) or asphyxiation by ensuring that the airways are open. Most prams that are used from birth will include the seat unit, which will recline to a lay-flat pram mode for babies younger than the age of one and convert into a pushchair travel system seat unit for older children.

It's also worth considering whether you'd prefer a pram that faces the parent or not. It's perfect for keeping an eye on your child, and also helps children feel secure with the familiarity of their parents.

When buying a pram newborn it is essential to consider your baby's transport needs. Also, make sure you can fold it down with ease and ensure that the safety harness is in good working order that fits comfortably and securely (five-point rather than three-point) and is adjustable as your child grows. You should be able store shopping bags and changing bags underneath the pram (but keep in mind that too much weight can cause it to topple over).
