Top Rated Robot Vacuums

A robot vacuum is able to keep floors clean enough to decrease the frequency at which you have to manually vacuum. Find one that has excellent navigation, is able to clean stairs and corners and has a huge dust bin that needs emptying only every few times.

1. IRobot Roomba i3+ EVO

The i3+ EVO is similar to its sibling the i3 EVO. They differ only in the fact that the i3+ has self-emptying capabilities. The i3+ is an excellent alternative for those who want a an automated, hands-free cleaning experience, but want to manually empty the dust bin once it gets full.

Both robots are good in removing dirt and dust particles on hard floors and carpets and are able to navigate around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates smart maps of your home that aid the i3+ EVO to navigate and clean in a way that maximizes efficiency. The i3+ does not have obstacle avoidance capabilities like the i7+ or any other top-rated robots we have test. It may get stuck on power cords and socks, and may have trouble navigating between different surfaces like hardwood and rug.

iRobot suggests cleaning up the area where the i3+ EVO vacuums prior to using it. This includes getting rid of any toys or clutter it might come across. It's also an excellent idea to keep the bin and filter clear so they do not become blocked by dirt. If the i3+ EVO's internal bin is filled or the battery is depleted it goes back to its docking station, automatically emptying its trash into the station's dust bin and then resumes cleaning the area where it left off. Battery life is about an hour-and-a-half of continuous use. It takes three hours to charge.

2. IRobot Roomba i7+

The iRobot Roomba i7+ is the top model in the iRobot flagship line and has the most up-to-date features. It's self-charging, self-navigating, and the most important feature of all -- it has a self-emptying dustbin that eliminates one of the main sources of maintenance for any robot vacuum.

The Roomba I7+ is able to make rooms more efficient maps using Imprint Smart Mapping. It also works with iRobot Home to schedule cleaning jobs, and you can control your robot through the app or via voice.

In our testing the i7+ performed quicker and more maneuverable than our second-placed model which was the eufy RoboVac G30, and it took large pieces of pet hair from all surfaces types, including carpeting. The main advantage it has over the Eufy is the self-emptying bin that eliminates the main sources of maintenance and reduces the cost of maintenance.

We were also awestruck by the i7+'s compatibility Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant AI services. We used these services to instruct the buy robot vacuum cleaner on how to begin, stop, or pause cleaning sessions, as well as to move around the room and even vacuum a specific area. Connecting the i7+ to these services was easy and straightforward through the iRobot Home app. We were able, once connected, to speak commands to the i7+, like "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home App also offers options for managing i7+ settings and monitoring performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

This model also has an accessory dock that can charge to 100% in 3.5 hours and provides an easy access to two attachments as well as a Wand clip. This is a huge improvement over earlier Dysons models, that require a long charge and are a pain to store.

The main drawback of the V10 is its sluggish run time. Its claims on the market that it has up to 60 minutes of running time are not true as CR's tests have shown. This is a typical, not exceptional, battery-powered cordless vacuum's run time. It's enough time to clean a typical-sized home, but not enough to get into every corner. (A second time generally works). This model has its own advantages however: it's lighter and more maneuverable than older Dysons cordless models, and its vacuuming ability is noticeable superior on carpets with low pile.

4. iRobot Roomba 694"

The 694 is a standard robot vacuum that's a great choice for those who don't have a lot of money to spend on a robot. It could pick up the majority of types of debris in our tests, and frequently went over the same area many times for an extensive clean. Its flat front end helps it to reach into corners and along the edges of walls which is a nice touch.

Its intelligent navigation system makes use of iAdapt to avoid obstacles and navigate your home, but it lacks the mapping capabilities of more advanced models like our top 5 robot vacuum picks such as the i3+ EVO and j7+ series. The app also makes it easy to manually steer the robot in the event of need. For example my living room rug has a darkly colored border that tends to cause confusion for other robots I've tried. However the HRV 425BL kept moving across the border without registering it as an incline. Also, the ability to program weekly cleaning schedules is a great time-saving convenience.
